Generation wao
Powered by WAO, Generation WAO are an extension for the younger generation. A space for like-minded individuals in their 20’s to collaborate, bounce ideas off one another and keep the conversation going.
We want Gen Wao to be an all-inclusive space for young people. Please get in touch with us if you’d like to learn more, or find out what we have coming up.
Who are we?
We are just a group of equally passionate young people, volunteering our time to make Wānaka an even better place to live.

HoW the bloody hell are ya?
mental health and resilience event
Hosted at Paradiso Cinema in Wānaka, we held a Mental Health and Resilience chat.
The cinema was bursting, with around 120 people in attendance. The evening started with Taylor Rapley, of Āhua Psychology, taking us through mental health and resilience strategies. This was followed by local Wånaka legends talking through their experiences with mental health. Dr. Lucy Hone, of the New Zealand Institute of Wellbeing and Resilience also recorded a message to us, talking us through resilience strategies.
We were stoked with the response and are glad to have opened up the conversation with young people. Now to keep it going!
don’t know s**t about politics?
politics 101 leading up to the elections
Prior to the 2020 elections, we hosted an evening exploring politics in New Zealand at Fed Diner.
Our first event, around 65 people in attendance, Fed was packed out. Kathy Dedo of Link Upper Clutha MC’ed the night, and led a quiz on our parliamentary system. We heard direct from the Electoral Commission on the in’s and out’s of voting, and then from our very own Rachel Cooper on ‘What is the Law’ and how it relates to us in our everyday life.
